Inspired by pin-up art, the "Everyday Girl" project is the modern take on pin-up by incorporating certain features from the genre. Although pin-up originated in the late 1800s, it reached its greatest popularity during the war in the 1940s. It was only available to celebrities at the beginning, until the troops started writing to magazines asking for "everyday girls."
